Building Family Away from Home at Outreach Housing
From foodbank roots to a thriving community, refugees find support, purpose, and belonging through partnership and resilience.

'God sets the solitary in families..' Psalm 68:6
Pastor Pete and local partnership managers Christa and Maisie paid a visit to Outreach Housing Gateshead, meeting with their volunteer team and residents and local Bishop Steven who came to hear more about our partnership work.
Outreach Housing originated when volunteers at a local church-run foodbank recognised a number of young male refugees were coming along for help - thousands of miles away from their families, or with no family at all - often traumatised and needing help to integrate into the local community. Each resident has an amazing story of courage and resilience and spends time volunteering at their local foodbank, studying or preparing for work.
One resident has received an award for best student in their entire college! And well deserved. The resident support team are highly professional and diligent but one can't help but notice that the community that has been built, feels like family!
