A community of Kindness at Derby
Providing essential services to others

Sonia and Andy Robinson are a remarkable team. Sonia leads as our Derby Manager, while her husband Andy serves as Associate Leader at New Life Church in Derby. Together, their love for people and generous spirit shine through everything they do. Whether it's through their work, conversations, or daily life, their kindness leaves a lasting impact.
At Green Pastures Derby, volunteering isn’t just encouraged, it’s part of the culture. There are always opportunities to get involved throughout the town, and our residents are stepping into them with enthusiasm. A beautiful moment unfolded recently when Sonia arrived at a church event and was greeted, unexpectedly, by several residents who were volunteering at the event. It was a surprise that brought joy all around.
I had the pleasure of visiting Derby on the same day New Life Church hosted their weekly free hot meal, open to anyone who needs it. Three of our residents regularly volunteer there, helping with everything from cooking to serving, washing up, and making guests feel right at home. They do an incredible job. The lasagne that day was delicious, the atmosphere was warm and full of life, and the smiles on their faces said it all.
Volunteering can be a powerful experience. It builds confidence, adds structure to daily life, and opens doors to friendships and deeper community. For many, simply having a welcoming place to go for lunch—especially during hard times financially or emotionally, can make all the difference. At New Life Church, guests are met with laughter, kindness, and open arms. It's more than a meal; it’s a space of belonging.
We're so thankful for people like Sonia, Andy, and the incredible volunteers who make Derby a place of hope, connection, and transformation.
